AMSTERDAM — Three US internationals laced up in England on Tuesday, with Jonathan Spector returning to central midfield in Birmingham City's tight 0-0 draw with guests Hull City.
The Brums stretched their current Championship shutout streak to 341 minutes and their home unbeaten run in league play to 15 games, but were unable to crack the winning code. The result dropped Spector & Co. two spots in the table to fifth.
Elsewhere in the second flight, Robbie Findley worked the second half up top to no avail as Nottingham Forest's skid continued with a 2-1 loss at Middlesbrough.
Having leaked on either side of intermission, the Reds pulled one back at the hour. Despite being up a man for the final 15 minutes and one late bar strike, the next-to-bottom visitors were unable to conjure an equalizer.
Down another level in League One, Frank Simek's Carlisle United missed an opportunity to move into the promotion playoff zone, settling for a 0-0 draw against visiting Tranmere Rovers. The US right back saw yellow early in the second half for a late challenge.
