American Exports: Freddy Adu's trial with Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar comes to an end without a contract offer

USMNT fans dreaming of seeing Freddy Adu feeding assists to Aron Johannsson at AZ Alkmaar can give up hope.

The Dutch club on Sunday announced that Adu's trial has come to an end after one week and that the team, coached by former Dutch great Marco Van Basten, will not be extending a contract offer to the player.

"We wish Freddy success in his quest for a new employer," said the announcement on the AZ Alkmaar official club site.

The 25-year-old former MLS player is still in search of a new club after last playing for Brazilian side Bahia in late 2013. He has unsuccessfully tried out at English club Blackpool and Norwegian side Stabaek, coached by former US boss Bob Bradley.

Adu has played for nine different clubs around the world since turning professional and joining DC United in 2004.
