American Exports: Fabian Johnson helps craft game-winner as Borussia Monchengladbach win again

Fabian Johnson scores for USA (June 1, 2014)

AMSTERDAM – Fabian Johnson helped set up the lone goal as warming Borussia Mönchengladbach won for the third time in four Bundesliga by blanking guests Freiburg 1-0 on Tuesday night.

The US international, who went the distance at left wing, helped the Foals break out down his flank by means of some clever combo play with Branimir Hrgota. After being freed down the wing by Johnson, the 'Gladbach striker's cross flew mere inches over the American's head, falling kindly for the opportunistic Patrick Hermann to fire home from the far side.

Though it was not Johnson's most efficient passing game, he also set up a breakaway chance for Max Kruse with nine minutes remaining in the contest. However, after being deftly slipped into the area by Johnson, the forward narrowly missed the target wide.

By winning for the fourth time in their last five league games at home, third-place 'Gladbach pulled clear of the nearest UEFA Champions League chaser.
