American Exports: Ethan Horvath helps Molde FK earn draw in Champions League qualifier

Ethan Horvath makes a save for Molde in a Champions League qualifier

AMSTERDAM – Ethan Horvath backstopped Molde FK to another solid Champions League result on Tuesday night, as the Norwegian kings rallied for a 1-1 first-leg draw with third qualifying round hosts Dinamo Zagreb.

The 20-year-old Colorado native had little to do beyond area maintenance for much of the evening, but he was pressed into action late. In between a pair of rushes off his line to smother chances, Horvath covered a defensive error by cruelly denying Dinamo's Chilean striker Ángelo Henríquez a winner on 89 minutes.

Despite dropping away points for the first time in his career, Horvath remained unbeaten in seven road matches across all competitions. The American and his teammates will play host to Dinamo Zagreb next Tuesday to decide on who advances. A victory or scoreless draw would put Molde one step closer to their first participation in the Champions League group phase since 2000.
