American Exports: Altidore crashes out of Copa

AMSTERDAM – A handful of Americans took to the Tuesday night lights in Europe, with Jozy Altidore working an honest 62 minutes as Villarreal were bounced from the Copa del Rey quarterfinals with a 3-0 second-leg loss at Sevilla.


Starting alongside fellow New Jersey native Giuseppe Rossi, the US international fired a screamer from 18 yards out after creating his own shot with the dribble on his best move of the day. Sevilla advanced 6-3 on aggregate.

In England, Wolverhampton 'keeper Marcus Hahnemann continued with cup duty, manning the home side's line with two saves in a 5-0 FA Cup stroll past Doncaster.


Also, Frank Simek went his usual 90 minutes at right back as Carlisle United put one foot in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy championship match by humbling northern area final first leg visitors Huddersfield Town 4-0.
