AMSTERDAM – Alex DeJohn was charged with a controversial penalty foul on the opening goal, but IK Start battled back late for a 3-3 Tippeligaen draw at Odds BK on Friday night.


The New Jersey native made his seventh straight start in central defense for the visitors, who first fell behind on a 32nd-minute spot kick by Canada striker Olivier Occean. DeJohn was ruled to have played the ball with his hand in the Start area, but replays appeared to show a legal carom off his chest.


The Old Dominion University product would depart in the 88th minute, mere seconds before teammate Lars-Jorgen Salvesen leveled matters with a penalty kick. The point gained tentatively lifted Start to 12th place.
