Alvarez to appear on "Republica Deportiva"

FRISCO, Texas (Friday, August 10, 2007) - FC Dallas midfielder Arturo Alvarez has been invited to be a guest on Univision's highly-popular national television sports show "Republica Deportiva" on Sunday, August 12. Republica Deportiva, hosted by Fernando Fiore and Rosana Franco, is the weekly Live sports show with the highest Hispanic audience in the United States, viewed in over one million households every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. CT.


Born in Houston to Salvadorian parents, the 22-year old Arturo will become the first Dallas player ever to appear on the Republica set. Alvarez has scored four goals in the team's last five games, including the game-winning goal in FCD's 2-1 overtime victory over the Charleston Battery in the U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinals earlier this week. Prior to that game, Arturo had scored three goals in three SuperLiga matches, including the first-ever goal in the tournament in a 1-1 draw versus Guadalajara on July 24 and then scoring twice in the wild 5-6 loss to the LA Galaxy on July 31. In MLS regular season play, Alvarez has scored once and added three assists in 16 games played.


The following are some of the other MLS players that have previously been guests on Republica Deportiva since the show debuted in April 1999: Juan Pablo Angel, Carlos Valderrama, Raul Diaz Arce, Pablo Mastroeni, Jaime Moreno, Roy Lassiter, Landon Donovan, Carlos Ruiz, Marco Etcheverry, Mauricio Cienfuegos, Amado Guevara, and Carlos Pavon.
