Alexi Lalas weighs in on Matias Almeyda's plan with San Jose Earthquakes

Alexi Lalas - March 31, 2019

It's been a tough start to the season for Matias Almeyda and the San Jose Earthquakes.

Almeyda preached patience for his man-marking system to take hold with the group, the same style which has earned the manager success during his career.

“Simply, I am looking for a style of play and even if they were to score 10 goals, I'd have the same mentality because I like a certain style of soccer,” Almeyda said after the club's 5-0 loss to LAFC.

After the Quakes' 4-1 loss to the New York Red Bulls two weeks ago, Almeyda similarly said he needed time for his system to take hold.

“We're going to try to give our current players we have confidence,” he said. “It's never easy to change a system, it's a whole different system and as time goes, we're going to get out of this one we're in.”

At halftime of the Orlando City SC vs. D.C. United match, FOX Sports broadcaster Alexi Lalas weighed in on the subject with a passionate rant.

The Quakes have started the season with four straight losses and a -12 goal differential.
