2019 Season Preview: Colorado Rapids

After struggling to score goals in 2018 ... the Colorado Rapids aren't likely to suffer such complications with Kei Kamara and Diego Rubio in 2019.

Second-year head coach Anthony Hudson is ecstatic to welcome Kamara, Rubio and Benny Feilhaber into his team as the Rapids look to make a run at the playoffs this season. What better time than the present for US national team legend Tim Howard, who announced he'll be retiring at season's end.

Team strengths and weaknesses

  • Strength: Recognition that MLS experience matters. The Rapids went out into the foreign market last winter, and the results were … often poor. This year, Colorado went out and got Kei Kamara and Diego Rubio (goalscorers, hooray!), Benny Feilhaber to steady the midfield and Keegan Rosenberry to nail down right back.
  • Weakness: Central defense. They’ve got the potential to be solid, but they could just as soon throw it back to 2018. If Kortne Ford can stay healthy, that’d be awesome. If they can make the playoffs during a season in which DP spots are used on Shkelzen Gashi and Tim Howard, that’d be brilliant work.
