2005 Jetix Kids Cup International Final set for Friday

Youth soccer teams from around the country and Latin America will convene at Easton Fields in Columbus, OH on Friday, July 29 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. for the Jetix Kids Cup International Final Tournament. Organized by Major League Soccer, the action-packed, five-a-side international soccer event promotes the importance of kids leading active and healthy lifestyles, as well as the values of sportsmanship, fair play, cultural exchange and the pure exhilarating fun of athleticism.


Teams of youth players ages 10-12 from across the U.S. who qualified in regional events held in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York, as well as two teams from Latin America will compete in these spirited games. The youth tournament will be attended by MLS players, Chris Klein of the Kansas City Wizards and Steve Jolley from FC Dallas, along with MLS scouts.


The teams from the Jetix Kids Cup will get to attend the 2005 Sierra Mist MLS All-Star Game in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, July 30th, and take part in the pre-game ceremonies. The Jetix Kids Cup International Boys Finalists are: The Hurricanes from Chicago, Illinois, the Nitemares from Chino Hills, California, the Magic from Lynbrook, New York, and Sociedade Educaccional Percepcao from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Girls finalists include: the MG Storm from Morton Grove, Illinois, the SoCal Blues from San Juan Capistrano, California, the Thunder from East Meadow, New York, and Carlos Drummond from Sao Paulo, Brazil.


"Jetix Kids Cup," an energetic short-form television series, will highlight the fun and adventure from the regional tournaments and the finals. It will be presented Saturday, August 20 during ABC Kids on the ABC Television Network and Sunday, August 21 during Jetix programming blocks on Toon Disney and ABC Family. On air on all three platforms (ABC Kids, ABC Family and Toon Disney), "Jetix Kids Cup" programming will be jointly sponsored by Gatorade and Kellogg's.


Last year, the Jetix Kids Cup was a cultural adventure of a lifetime for 256 kids from around the world. The five day event took place at the Manchester United Soccer School at Disneyland Resort Paris. Teams from 16 countries including the U.S., France, Germany, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, the United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Georgia, Hungary, Russia, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, participated. The boys' team from Israel and the girls' team from the United States were the champions.
