MLS Fantasy Rewind: Toronto FC, FC Dallas players come up big in Round 21

Sebastian Giovinco - Toronto FC - gets congratulated after goal in Canadian Championship

While the red vs. blue status of New York has been up for debate all season, this round’s MLS Fantasy Dream Team was overwhelmingly a sea of red -- in MLS overall.

Toronto FC and FC Dallas contributed the lion’s share of players to the ideal squad, seven players total between the two clubs. Toronto’s 3-0 victory over Columbus resulted in four Dream Teamers, while Dallas’ 2-0 victory over Vancouver contributed three.

Sebastian Giovinco ($13.4) continued his return to fantasy form leading all Toronto players with 16 points off a goal and two assists. Tsubasa Endoh ($5.2) also made the dream team with his goal and a 10-point performance. Goalkeeper Alex Bono ($4.6) and Justin Morrow ($8.0) round out Toronto’s offerings.

Dallas had two top players on their backline in Atiba Harris ($5.7) and Maynor Figueroa ($6.7) and Kellyn Acosta ($7.2) came through with a goal to make the Dream Team’s five-man midfield.

The top fantasy scorer in Round 21 didn’t come from either of those teams, however. Hat trick heroFrank Lampard ($10.6) took that honor with a 17-point performance that would have been 18 were it not for his yellow card. This was Lampard’s first double-digit performance this fantasy season, but he’s been good for seven points or better all but once since Round 14.

Top honors this week go to Straight Davies who scored 113 on the round captaining Giovinco, and featuring Lampard, Morrow, and other dream team players Kevin Molino ($8.8) and Jack Harrison ($6.0). Congrats on the win and enjoy your prize!

It’s like Albany, only cleaner…

Here’s what you need to know going into Round 22:

  • The transfer deadline is Wednesday, August 3 at 7:00 pm ET
  • Toronto FC hosting Real Salt Lake is the lone midweek game
  • Columbus Crew SC and FC Dallas are off this week
  • Keep an eye on the Injury Report

This week’s dream team gave us plenty of ideas for Toronto players to add. Captaining Giovinco is going to be a precautionary measure for most managers this round, so winning and losing will likely depend on what else you’ve got up your sleeve.

Toronto’s Bono has kept two clean sheets since taking over as starting goalkeeper in round 16 and still comes at a discount price. He’s the keeper I’d add versus trying to do the math to work Nick Rimando ($6.3) onto your squad.

If you’re using auto-subs, having Jordan Hamilton ($5.0) on your bench is a decent idea, or you could even start him if you just need a cheap forward while stashing a higher priced bye week player on your bench.
