Bonus Points: All aboard the DC United double-game-week train ahead of Round 11

TRANSFER DEADLINE: Wednesday, 8 PM ET

If you’re upset about not hopping aboard the DGW train for last week’s points bonanza, have no fear because the next stop is just two days away.

D.C. United play five matches in 18 days, starting this Wednesday at home against struggling Orlando City (8 pm ET, ESPN2). Schuyler Redpath reminded us in this week’s Monday Morning Center Back that Ben Olsen is going to have to rotate players to keep fresh legs on the field. Even taking that into account, I think D.C. players will be worth keeping around for a couple weeks. This week, I’m breaking down all of the D.C. United players that have seen significant minutes this season, starting with Bill Hamid:

Goalkeeper

D.C. United Goalkeepers
Player GP Pts/G Rec/G Save/G
Bill Hamid 7 6.43 11.86 4.29

Hamid has been the most consistent MLS Fantasy scorer on the team so far this season, and the one that is least likely to be rotated out of the starting XI. Hamid doesn’t come cheap, but he’s averaging almost three bonus points per game, so even if D.C. United doesn’t get a clean sheet, he should earn 4-5 points per game.

Defenders

D.C. United Midfielders
Player GP Pts/G CBI/G Last 4
Bobby Boswell 9 5.78 12.33 3-9-8-4
Sean Franklin 9 5.78 6.67 4-4-15-3
Kofi Opare 7 4.57 7.14 2-3-8-3
Chirs Korb 5 4.40 6.00 0-2-7-3
Taylor Kemp 4 5.00 5.50 2-0-0-0
Steve Birnbaum 2 6.00 12.00 0-0-0-0

Bobby Boswell and Sean Franklin have been the most reliable defenders, both for points and minutes played. They aren’t cheap, though, clocking in at $9.3m and $8.2m, respectively. Kofi Opare is a super-cheap alternative at $5.1m, but with Steve Birnbaum nearing full health, there’s no guarantee that either Opare or Birnbaum are going to start consecutive games. The same could be said of Chirs Korb and Taylor Kemp – both players have been fighting for the spot at left back.

Midfielders

D.C. United Midfielders
Player GP Pts/G Goals Assists Last 4
Chris Rolfe 9 4.78 2 3 7-7-7-2
Perry Kitchen 9 4.11 2 1 1-3-3-6
Chris Pontius 9 3.22 1 1 2-2-3-6
Davy Arnaud 8 3.63 0 1 2-0-4-1
Nick DeLeon 6 3.17 0 1 0-2-3-3
Michael Farfan 3 3.00 0 1 2-4-0-0

Only Chris Rolfe and Perry Kitchen have averaged more than four points per game in the nine matches they’ve played, and I’d feel pretty comfortable starting either one of them on my team this week. The rest of the D.C. midfield is a crap-shoot, though – how lucky are you feeling?

Forwards

D.C. United Midfielders
Player GP Pts/G Goals Assists Last 4
Jairo Arrieta 5 4.40 2 0 0-0-0-7
Fabian Espindola 2 6.00 1 1 0-2-10-0

Speaking of luck (but not the good kind), Fabian Espindola’s no-show threw a lot of managers for a loop last weekend. His injury has been described as “day-to-day,” so there’s no guarantee that he’ll start on Wednesday. That being said, D.C.’s offense is much more potent with him in it, and if Espindola starts against Orlando City, he’s going to score points.
