MLS may be entering its 19th season, but there are a couple of MLS teams celebrating their 40th anniversary.
After the San Jose Earthquakes unveiled their throwback 40th anniversary jerseys that harken back to the team’s early days, the Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday followed suit with a commemorative secondary kit of their own.
The 'Caps are sticking with their customary "deep sea blue" look for their away kits, but they've also made sure to subtly represent their history with an embossed curve that mimics the wave in the old Vancouver logo from the 1970s. In a mix of past and present, the wave is actually made up of smaller diamond patterns that replicates the shape of the current team logo.
The not-so-subtle reference to the 40 years of history comes in the form of the metallic commemorative 40th anniversary logo on the back of the shirt between the shoulders, indicating the years 1974-2014.
But not everything is new. One feature that carries over from last year’s shirt: the team’s slogan “Our all, Our honour” printed on the neck tape.

Every MLS team is unveiling new jerseys as part of 2014 Jersey Week, which runs through March 7 in the lead-up to the start of the new season on Saturday, March 8.
