The New England Revolution and defender A.J. DeLaGarza have agreed to a contract, the club announced Thursday. The move sees the veteran reunited with former coach Bruce Arena.

DeLaGarza, 33, spent 2009-16 with the LA Galaxy, winning three MLS Cups and two Supporters' Shields under Arena. He was a constant starter for the majority of his time there, making 204 appearances with the club.

“It is a pleasure to welcome A.J. DeLaGarza to the New England Revolution. I’ve known A.J. for a number of years and know he will be a great addition to our team,” Arena said in a club statement. “A.J. is an experienced defender who can play all positions across the backline. He is a great professional, an excellent communicator, and a tactically sound player. We look forward to working with him in New England.

DeLaGarza spent 2020 with Inter Miami (five appearances) after playing with the Houston Dynamo from 2017-19. He has 266 career MLS appearances.

The versatile defender will add competition and depth across the backline.
