Real Salt Lake 1, LA Galaxy 2 | 2017 MLS Match Recap

Chris Schuler - RSL - heads ball away from Jose Villareal - LA - 3-18-17

Yura Movsisyan headed home the first goal of the season for Real Salt Lake Saturday, but 10-man RSL couldn't hold the lead and ended up with a painful 2-1 loss against Western Conference rival LA Galaxy on Saturday in Rio Tinto Stadium.

Movsisyan's 18th-minute goal gave RSL the lead, but Kyle Beckerman was shown his second yellow card and sent off in the 44th minute. Galaxy defender Dave Romney powered home a left-footed blast off a corner for the equalizer in the 69th minute and Emmanuel Boateng scored the decisive goal in the 74th to give the Galaxy its first win of 2017.

Three Things

  • IF AT FIRST YOU DON'T SUCCEED... Jermaine Jones couldn't believe that fellow US national teamer Nick Rimando had just robbed him of a goal by somehow getting down and getting an arm on a powerful header, but if RSL thought that save would preserve a point, they were mistaken. Just over a minute later, Emmanuel Boateng beat Rimando to score the winner for the Galaxy.

  • OWNERSHIP HAS ITS PRIVILEGES: Boateng owns Real Salt Lake. It's true. All five of his goals in MLS (three in the regular season, two in the playoffs) have come against RSL.

  • CAUTIONARY TALE:
Real Salt Lake were issued six yellow cards in the game (including two to Kyle Beckerman) compared to just one for LA. Doesn't sound much like home cooking.
