Benoit Cheyrou will be back with Toronto FC in 2017, as the club announced on Wednesday that they have re-signed the French veteran.

“Benoit has been an important player for Toronto FC over the past two seasons, and he is part of our core group,” Toronto FC General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko said in a statement. “His wealth of experience has helped us throughout the season in both the regular season and playoffs in what was a historic year for the club. We are very excited to bring him back to Toronto FC.”

Cheyrou, 35, initially joined Toronto ahead of the 2015 season. He recorded one goal and seven assists in 28 league appearances in his first year in Toronto and tallied two assists in 14 regular season matches and one goal in three playoff appearances in 2016. He had his option declined following the season, but renegotiated a new deal that was announced on Wednesday.
