Timbers and Revs facing long playoff odds, according to ESPN's SPI

The New England Revolution and Portland Timbers will have to overcome some pretty serious odds if they want to qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs.

The Revs and Timbers both sit in seventh-place in their respective conferences with a pair of regular season games remaining. New England are three points behind Philadelphia for the final playoff spot in the East, while the defending MLS Cup champion Timbers are two points behind Kansas City for the sixth spot in the West.

According to ESPN’s Soccer Power Index, both have about a 1-in-3 chance of making the playoffs. The projections, which were tweeted out by Paul Carr on Friday, give both the Union and SKC at least a 3-in-4 shot at qualifying for the postseason.

Carr’s full MLS projection article, which is available only to ESPN Insider subscribers, can be found here.
