Hassoun Camara headed in a late equalizer for the Montreal Impact, which rallied to tie D.C. United, 1-1, after Lamar Neagle scored from the penalty spot in the first half Wednesday night at Stade Saputo.
The first half produced just one goal, and it was a controversial one, as referee Robert Sibiga pointed to the spot after ruling that Donny Toia clipped Patrick Nyarko, though the Ghanaian forward appeared to embellish.
Neagle converted the penalty kick, beating Montreal goalkeeper Evan Bush, who dived the other way, for his fourth goal of the season. Bush was booked for dissent following the goal.
Montreal (8-7-10) equalized in the 77th minute, capitalizing on a Neagle turnover as Camara latched onto a Marco Donadel cross and put his diving header from the edge of the six-yard box past D.C. United goalkeeper Bill Hamid.
Until that point, Hamid was brilliant, coming up with huge saves on both sides of halftime, diving to his left to get a piece of an Ignacio Piatti toe-poke in the 11th minute and reaching back to slap away a Johan Venegas header from the edge of the six-yard box in the 55th minute.
Hamid also did well to cut down Didier Drogba’s angle on another critical save in the 66th minute.
D.C. United (6-8-11) finished the match with 10 men after Kofi Opare was sent off with a straight red for a studs-up challenge on Donadel in the 89th minute.

United coach Ben Olsen rotated his roster following a 2-2 draw against the rival New York Red Bulls Sunday to bring on seven fresh starters, including Lamar Neagle, who ensured the visitors scored a goal for the seventh straight match in their fifth consecutive without a loss.
2. BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD: In matches almost exactly a month apart, the Montreal Impact repeated what they did at RFK Stadium on July 31 when they rallied for a 1-1 draw on Hernan Bernardello's equalizer four minutes from full time after Patrick Mullins put the hosts in front on 20 minutes.
3. LIMPING INTO BMO: Camara's tying goal secured both teams shared the points, but one point out of back-to-back home games against teams below them in the Eastern Conference standings isn't exactly the way the Impact wanted heading into a critical showdown with Toronto FC at BMO Field Saturday.
