A key contest in the Eastern Conference is ahead when Columbus Crew SC play host to New York City FC on Saturday evening at Mapfre Stadium. Crew SC come into the match sitting in ninth place in the East, seven points below the red line, their winless run now at nine games following a 3-0 loss at Toronto FC last time out. New York City FC are atop the Eastern Conference, maintaining their hold on first place following a scoreless draw at the San Jose Earthquakes last weekend.

- Crew SC return to action after a weekend off, their winless run extended to nine matches last time out in a 3-0 defeat at Toronto FC on July 31. It’s Crew SC’s longest winless run since their club-record 13 games without a victory during the 2006 season.
- New York City FC continue their two-game road swing with the match in Columbus, starting it off with a goalless draw at the San Jose Earthquakes on Friday evening.
- The teams are meeting for the second time this season. David Villa scored twice for NYCFC, but Ethan Finlay, Kei Kamara and Justin Meram hit the back of the net for Crew SC for a 3-2 victory April 16 at MAPFRE Stadium.
