A critical contest for two teams right on the playoff line is ahead when Vancouver Whitecaps FC play host to Orlando City SC in an interconference match Saturday evening at BC Place. Whitecaps FC sit right on the red line in the Western Conference, concluding their three-game homestand following a 2-0 win against Real Salt Lake on Wednesday evening. Orlando City have fallen out of the playoff positions in the Eastern Conference, now three games without a win following a 2-0 defeat at the New York Red Bulls to start their three-game road swing at midweek.

- Orlando City had scored in each of their first 15 league games this season, before being shut out in two in a row after the scoreless draw with Houston at Camping World Stadium. OCSC and the Portland Timbers were the final teams to be shut out offensively this season, both blanked for the first time on the same day (July 4).
- Kendall Waston scored his second goal of the season, but Whitecaps FC were hauled back into a 2-2 draw with the Colorado Rapids on Saturday evening at BC Place. It was Waston’s first goal since scoring the ‘Caps first goal of the season, on March 6 – Waston has scored two goals now in each of his three MLS seasons.
