How drafting Cristian Techera and David Accam for your DraftKings lineup will save you money

There’s plenty at stake for both MLS teams and MLS fantasy players alike this weekend. Several games with major playoff implications will certainly have an impact on individual fantasy performances. Who are you counting on to lead your team to glory on DraftKings this weekend?

With so much player rotation this time of year, be sure to follow @MLSFantasy on Twitter for updates on starting lineups, strategy and tips throughout the weekend. Here are several players to build your DraftKings lineups around:

Goalkeepers

Obvious & Budget Pick: With so many good matchups on the board, I’m most confident in Sean Johnson ($4,000) and the Chicago Fire getting a result at home against Orlando City SC, who will most likely be without star midfielder Kaká.

Sleeper Pick: Josh Saunders ($5,000) was the star of the show midweek, shutting out Sebastian Giovinco ($13,600) and Toronto FC on the way to a 24-point outing. While I wouldn’t fault you for rostering Saunders again, I'm looking at his counterpart David Bingham ($4,500) for $500 less. Bingham is second in the league with 95 saves and will be leaned upon to keep San Jose’s playoff hopes alive.

Defenders

Obvious Pick: Any time Chris Tierney ($6,400) is on the board I'll always try to make room for him on my DraftKings team. He has double-digit crossing upside and can pile up the points regardless of clean sheet or defensive bonus points. He should also be well rested after getting the night off on Wednesday.

Budget Pick:Harrison Afful ($4,400) is consistently earning six points per game from his crosses alone. Afful contributed an assist last weekend, feeding Golden Boot frontrunner Kei Kamara ($11,100) for the game-winning goal.

Sleeper Pick: Manchester City product Angelino ($5,000) has been playing a more advanced role in the New York City lineup over the last two games. He came off the bench midweek, so keep an eye on starting lineups before locking him in.

Midfielders

Obvious Pick:Lee Nguyen ($9,700) tacked on another assist in New England’s midweek win over the New York Red Bulls, and now has six assists in his last three games.

Budget Pick:Cristian Techera ($6,600) has four goals in as many games, yet is available to roster at a mid-tier salary. "El Bicho" is averaging 25 Fantasy PPG over his last three home games.

Sleeper Pick:Ignacio Piatti ($8,500) was rested midweek in lieu of Montreal’s busy upcoming schedule. The Impact are on the playoff bubble and will look to a recharged Piatti to lead the way against the Revolution at home.

Forwards

Obvious Pick:Fabian Espindola ($9,700) went the full 90 minutes in his return to the D.C. United lineup last weekend. The DraftKings scoring format complements his game and he’ll be a force to be reckoned with for a Columbus Crew SC defense that hasn’t kept a clean sheet in over two months.

Budget Pick:David Accam ($7,300) has a goal in consecutive contests and has put up double-digit fantasy numbers in four straight. The Ghanaian is facing the same Orlando City team he torched for 22 points just three games ago.
