DC United goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra brewed beer to help cope with injury recovery | SIDELINE

The mental grind of being away from the field while recovering from an injury is often tough for professional athletes. Being on the field is what they live for, after all.

To deal with the stretches of inactivity, many pick up hobbies. Few, however, might be as cool as what goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra did last year.

Dykstra suffered a torn Achilles tendon a year ago that ruled him out for the rest of D.C. United's 2014 season, and to help cope with the psychological aspect of being hurt he began to make beer (video above). Yes, beer. All different kinds, too.

Not only did Dykstra make beer, but he named the different kinds and gave them labels as well. One was cleverly called Achilles Pale Ale.

While Dykstra apparently can still brew up some good beer, he has less time to do so these days. He is currently starting for D.C. United due to the injury of starter Bill Hamid. The 29-year-old Dykstra started each of the club's last three games, with the most recent one ending in a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Union.
