Columbus Crew SC forward Kei Kamara voted MLS Player of the Week

Kei Kamara added to his Major League Soccer-leading goal haul over the weekend – now he’s taking home Player of the Week honors.

Kamara has been voted the Week 12 MLS Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) after scoring both of Columbus Crew SC's goals in their 2-2 draw against the Chicago Fire on Friday. The brace – Kamara’s third of the season – gave the Sierra Leone international nine goals on the season, two ahead of Clint Dempsey and Chris Wondolowski for the league lead.

Kamara opened the scoring in the eighth minute of Friday’s contest, tapping home Ethan Finlay’s square ball to put the finishing touch on a well-worked Crew SC attack.

He doubled Columbus’ lead in the 55th, powering home Kevan George’s flicked header of a Federico Higuain corner for his second brace in his last three games.

Unfortunately for Kamara, he and his Crew SC teammates couldn’t hold their 2-0 advantage, allowing David Accam to score in the 58th minute before seeing Jason Johnson head home an equalizer in the 94th.

Columbus return to action this Saturday, when they travel to Florida to take on expansion side Orlando City SC (7:30 pm ET, MLS LIVE).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
