Graham Zusi doubtful for Sporting KC-Colorado Rapids match after suffering head injury vs. DC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After clearing two injury hurdles already this year, Graham Zusi has to get over yet another.

Sporting Kansas City's winger will likely miss 1564375457" tabindex="0">Saturday's home game against Colorado, manager Peter Vermes told MLSsoccer.com 1564375458" tabindex="0">on Tuesday, after colliding heads with D.C. United's Bobby Boswell during last weekend's 1-1 draw at RFK Stadium.

“We've got to be very smart with him,” Vermes said. “We're not going to – we've just got to make sure everything's right before we bring him back. So right now, he's very doubtful.”

Zusi was checked out by Sporting's training staff and returned to the match after the 70th minute collision, but sat down on the pitch and was replaced by rookie Amadou Dia in the 90th.

The 28-year-old World Cup veteran missed most of the preseason while he recovered from a stress fracture in his foot, then missed two games in April with a hamstring strain. He was rounding into form, with two assists in the two matches prior to the draw with United, before this latest setback.

“The thing with him is that he goes balls to the wall all the time,” Vermes said. “That's why some of that happens.”

Left back Seth Sinovic also had to come off briefly in the second half after he suffered a head-to-head collision with United midfielder Davy Arnaud. Sinovic returned to finish out the match.

“He's fine,” Vermes said on Tuesday. “He had absolutely no problems, other than that he had a cut and stitches.”
