Transfer Watch: Didier Drogba again linked with move to MLS if Chelsea do not offer extension

Didier Drogba Transfer Watch

The on-again, off-again rumors regarding a potential MLS move for Didier Drogba are making the rounds again.

According to a report from The Telegraph, Drogba could make a move to MLS this summer if he does not receive a contract extension from Chelsea. Drobga, 37, has made it known that he intends to continue playing after his deal expires, but the English Premier League leaders have yet to offer the powerful forward a new deal.

The Telegraph report links Drogba with making a move to expansion club New York City FC, where he could rejoin former teammate Frank Lampard. NYCFC currently have two Designated Player slots filled with Lampard and Spanish striker David Villa but have repeatedly stated their intentions to sign a third.

Drogba, a veteran of three World Cups with Ivory Coast and winner of the 2011-12 Champions League, was also linked with a move to MLS in 2012 after his first stint with Chelsea ended with Commissioner Don Garber acknowledging that the league sought to sign him up as a Designated Player.
