GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Edgar Castillo and Atlas’ seasons are over, with the Guadalajara side losing 2-0 on Sunday to Monterrey to exit the Liga MX Apertura 2014 at the quarterfinal stage.

Castillo’s team had gone into the game as favorites to advance to the semifinals after a 1-0 road win in the first leg last Thursday.

In the second leg, Castillo played his usual left-back role, but his performance reflected that of his almost nervous and tentative team, with the US international lacking his usual burst into the attack.

Monterrey’s rapid-strike force regularly picked holes in Atlas’ defense and netted through Dorlan Pabón and Cándido Ramírez on either side of halftime.

Castillo went the full 90 minutes, completing a remarkable season in which he played every second of Atlas’ Apertura, but Monterrey advanced to face Club América in one semifinal, while Herculez Gomez and Jose Torres’ Tigres side will play Toluca in the other.
