Why did Sporting Kansas City star Graham Zusi miss USMNT camp? Blame his foot injury

USMNT's Graham Zusi celebrates with Matt Besler

Sporting Kansas City talisman Graham Zusi didn't look his usual self during the tail end of the 2014 MLS season. And now we know one big reason why.

In an interview with SportingKC.com, the USMNT regular explained that he's played through a foot injury, which prevented him from joining the US national team for matches against Colombia and the Republic of Ireland.

According to the report, Zusi was scheduled to join USMNT camp in London and he was named to a preliminary roster, but "after discussions with the Sporting KC training staff as well as with US Soccer, Zusi decided it was best to skip the current camp."

"I picked up a foot injury in mid-October," Zusi told SportingKC.com. "It was a stress reaction that could have turned into a stress fracture had I continued to play on it. Although I love every opportunity to play for the national team, all parties thought it was best to skip this camp and allow the foot the time it needed to heal.

"Although I'm disappointed to not be playing for Sporting KC or the national team right now, this additional time off will give me the opportunity to rest my foot and come back even stronger next year."
