The Columbus Crew entered Sunday's Eastern Conference semifinal second leg against the New England Revolution (5 pm ET, ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes) without the services of Designated Player and playmaker Federico Higuain.
Crew head coach Gregg Berhalter said at practice on Friday that Higuain had been limited in training throughout the week, and the Argentinian was officially listed as questionable on the team's injury report with a right calf strain.
According to a team representative, when the club departed for Foxboro on Saturday, Higuain did not make the trip.
Higuain scored 11 goals and notched six assists on the season, both tied with winger Ethan Finlay for the team lead. Higuain started 29 matches, and was last unavailable in the club's regular season finale against Philadelphia, where the Crew won 2-1.
But Higuain isn't the only injury hampering the Crew. Forward Aaron Schoenfeld, who had become a regular starter for the Crew by the end of the season, and winger Bernardo Anor (hip) both stayed in Columbus as well, though only Anor appeared on the injury report, listed as questionable.
The New England Revolution were also missing a starter for the Eastern Conference Semifinal second leg on Sunday. Right back Andrew Farrell was not on the gameday roster due to a right leg injury, according to the club.
