American Exports: Greg Garza, Club Tijuana in postseason trouble after loss to Toluca

Greg Garza on the run for Tijuana

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – United States international left back Greg Garza went 90 minutes for Club Tijuana on Friday evening, but Xolos lost 1-0 to Toluca in Estadio Caliente in the Liga MX.

Mexico international Isaac Brizuela snuck in between Garza and center back Javier Gandolfi for Toluca’s only goal in 25th minute, following a looped pass from Pablo Velázquez.

Paul Arriola also featured, coming off the bench in the 82nd with Xolos chasing the game. It was his first appearance in the Liga MX under coach Daniel Guzmán, who was hired Sept. 1.

The result leaves Tijuana down in 12th position and needing other results to fall its way to reach the postseason.

For Xolos’ Under-20s, Stevie Rodriguez, Fernando Arce Jr. and Amando Moreno all started in the 3-0 victory over Toluca, with Rodriguez coming off in the 77th and Moreno in the 82nd.
