Toronto FC's Jermain Defoe sends a message to England manager Roy Hodgson with stunning goal

Toronto FC forward Jermain Defoe, who was named as only a reserve for England for the World Cup, sent a message to Three Lions' manager Roy Hodgson early in TFC's home match against the New York Red Bulls with a stunning strike into the upper 90.

The goal was Defoe's fourth of the season, but first since firing home the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over D.C. United on March 22. He missed three matches in April due to a hamstring injury but returned to the starting two weeks ago against New England.

Toronto went on to win the match, 2-0, with Defoe's countryman Luke Moore notching a late goal to guarantee the three points.
