American Exports: Daniel Williams puts in strong 60 minutes as Reading push for promotion

AMSTERDAM – Daniel Williams and Reading narrowly maintained hold of the English Championship's last promotion playoff spot with a 1-1 home draw against league leaders Leicester City on Monday.

The US midfielder worked 60 minutes, providing an all-around effort that included four clearances, three tackles and some positive passing. Williams came close to grabbing an assist just before intermission, but his splitting pass to send Garath McCleary in alone ended with a terrific fingertip save by Foxes netminder Kasper Schmeichel.

The point earned put Reading in sixth place, just ahead of both Brighton Hove & Albion and Ipswich Town purely on goal differential with four rounds to play. Amazingly, the Royals have managed to hold that position despite a home win drought that has now reached seven games.
