Vancouver Whitecaps striker Darren Mattocks

Vancouver Whitecaps striker Darren Mattocks underwent minor knee surgery on Thursday, the club announced, signaling a spell on the sidelines for the Jamaican international.

The procedure, a partial meniscectomy on his right knee, was successful.

The Whitecaps did not specify how long Mattocks is expected to be out of commission, but based on the typical range for similar meniscus operations, the second-year speedster could miss anywhere from two weeks to several months of action.

Mattocks has scored three goals and notched one assist in 623 minutes of league play this season.
