New England Revolution hitman Saer Sene aims to shake off hip knock in time for DC trip

New England's Saer Sene chases a ball through the San Jose defense

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Saër Sène's fleeting, yet painful, right hip complaint started with a training-ground challenge with veteran New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis a fortnight ago.

“I injured myself on the Thursday before the game against Houston,” Sène told MLSsoccer.com. “I had a 50-50 challenge with Matt Reis and I fell on my hip. It was hurting in the game against Houston [on July 13], but I played the game. After the game, I had a lot of pain.”

It didn't dissipate in the days after the 2-1 defeat to the Dynamo, either. Sène attempted to work his way back to health before the joint trip through Colorado and Columbus last week, but Revolution coach Jay Heaps ultimately opted to leave him out of the squad for both matches.

“You listen to your training staff,” Heaps said. “We have an excellent medical staff. I think Saër picked up a knock before the game against Houston. And I thought Houston was extra physical. That knock got worse. Rather than turn around and play him right away, he had to listen to his body.”

The signals started to turn after a little bit of rest and Sène returned to the training field with his teammates this week. If everything proceeds along this path, then he could return to the fold in time for the visit to D.C. United on Saturday (7 pm ET, MLS LIVE).

“It was painful, but now the pain is gone,” Sène said. “I try to treat the pain every day. Now I have to get back.”
