He's been running away from MLS defenses in recent weeks, and now he's run away with the MLS Player of the Month Award for April.
With four goals in four matches, Philadelphia Union forward Jack McInerney was the comprehensive winner of this month's prize, voted on by the North American Soccer Reporters. (See how the North American Soccer Reporters voted here.)
“Jack Mac” got 2013 off to a bright start with two strikes in the first three matches of the season, but really caught fire when April arrived, highlighted by a devastating brace in the Union's 3-2 road win over I-95 rivals D.C. United on April 21.
The opportunistic McInerney also struck for goals against Columbus and Toronto, and now owns a share of the top spot in the MLS Golden Boot race alongside March's Player of the Month, LA Galaxy midfielder Mike Magee.
Perhaps most importantly for Union fans, Philly are thus far undefeated in games where McInerney finds the net.
The Portland Timbers' “Johnson & Johnson” duo finished as the runners-up in the NASR voting, with Jamaican striker Ryan Johnson earning seven votes and Canadian midfielder Will Johnson garnering four as PTFC rolled to a 3-0-1 mark in April.
McInerney and the Union return to action on Saturday as the Seattle Sounders visit PPL Park (4 pm ET, MLS LIVE).
