Kick Off: Dynamo eye Feilhaber move, Harkes in DC

Dominic Kinnear could be interested in acquiring Benny Feilhaber.

After the Benny Feilhaber saga played out Tuesday evening with the New England Revolution claiming the player in the allocation rankings, many may have thought the drama was over.

Think again.

Turns out there is another team seeking to make a move for him. The Houston Chronicle reports there is interest from the Dynamo in crafting a trade for Feilhaber.

The addition of Feilhaber would not be a bad thing for a team that is currently having its depth tested by a full-blown injury crisis.

In the meantime, all eyes will be on tonight’s CONCACAF Champions League final clash between Real Salt Lake and Monterrey at the Estadio Tecnológico in Mexico (10 pm ET, Fox Soccer and TeleFutura), where the game plan for RSL is pretty simple: Win individual battles, keep possession for as long as possible, don’t give the ball away cheaply and prevent the Mexicans from breaking in transition.

Read RSL’s review of Monterrey’s home stadium after they trained there for the first time. Despite football lines and a track, they’re still calling it “classic.”

But the stadium is one thing and the field is another. In this article, manager Jason Kreis and Alvaro Saborio say the playing surface is in bad shape. (SPANISH)

The respect for RSL has grown with every stage they’ve advanced in this CCL tournament. If fans were amazed to hear Thierry Henry call RSL the “best team in the league,” here’s Toronto FC’s Julian de Guzman tipping his cap: “They play the best football in the league.”

The type of reactions that this Champions League final is eliciting is remarkable. Especially when you think that Tigres UANL manager Ricardo Ferretti, whose team is a fierce city rival of Monterrey’s, is even wishing luck to los Rayados. (SPANISH)

Moving on from the feel-good story in American soccer to the one-sided rivalry that still manages to generate trash talk from the team that hasn’t won a game in the series: Toronto FC vs. Columbus Crew. Watch the video that TFC has come up with.

D.C. United manager Ben Olsen admits that he has been talking to his players about the D.C. United vs. New York Red Bulls rivalry and specifically how things have changed.

Staying in DC, there is now a head coach for the new women’s team and the last name should be a familiar one: Harkes.

United’s Chris Pontius re-lived each of his two goals from last weekend’s 3-0 win in Toronto and explained how they would never have happened last year.

The LA Galaxy are dealing with injuries of their own. They received confirmation on the extent of the Leonardo injury. Now they’re down to six role defenders.

A former Galaxy midfielder is seeking to land a spot on Vancouver’s roster although he was actually supposed to be playing with a Japanese J-League club before the earthquake struck.

In Seattle, another of Pete Vagenas’ former clubs, they are trying to figure out how to have Argentine Mauro Rosales and Colombian Fredy Montero co-exist on the field at the same time. Sigi Schmid says to expect changes.

The most talked about coaching prospect in world soccer is from Portugal and he leads a dominating FC Porto side which is also making waves in Europe. Find out more about the man being called the next José Mourinho.

If you’re Celtic manager Neil Lennon, you’re counting your lucky stars. The parcel bombs sent to him could have caused “real harm.”

In other European soccer news, for all the talk surrounding the Real Madrid vs. Barcelona matchups, the first real game between the two sides that will issue a definitive final verdict is this afternoon’s Copa del Rey final to be played in Valencia, Spain (3:30 pm ET, GolTV and ESPNDeportes).

One person who attended last weekend’s La Liga Clásico was Chad Ochocinco, who documented his visit to Spain to the tune of tweets and photos. The self-proclaimed Real Madrid fan even took a photo with a Barcelona player.

In other matches today, it’s Chelsea vs. Birmingham City (2:30 pm ET, Fox Soccer), Arsenal vs. Tottenham in a North London derby (2:30 pm ET, ESPN2) and Club América looking to close out their Copa Libertadores group stage in style at Nacional of Uruguay (9 pm ET, Fox Deportes).

America’s rivals in Mexico, Chivas de Guadalajara, are not in the Copa Libertadores and dedicated their time to other endeavors. They trained in a Mexican jail and put on a show for the cellmates and their families. (PHOTOS)

Lastly, American soccer fans will remember former World Cup announcer Jack Edwards and his “that’s why he’s here” and “mine eyes have seen the glory” calls during the USA’s magical run in 2002. He’s made headlines with a call during the NHL playoffs: “Get up!”
