Work resumes for Wizards in K.C.

Kevin Hartman and the Wizards will soon head to Florida to continue training.

The Kansas City Wizards resumed preseason training sessions Wednesday at the Arrowhead indoor facility. After a day off Tuesday, the players were rested and ready for an intense workout in preparation for more training and exhibition games in Bradenton, Fla.

The team began the day with a dynamic warm-up, including ladders and other drills that focused on speed and agility. The practice progressed into a round-robin drill and ended with fitness and strength training. Overall, the day went well and Kansas City Wizards technical director Peter Vermes had nothing but positive things to say about the team's effort.

"Today's practice was very competitive and enthusiastic," he said. "After a day of rest yesterday, the team was ready to focus, and all of the players continue to improve each day."

Kansas City Wizards defender Nick Garcia was excited to be back in practice, and said that both veterans and rookie players are working together in a positive manner.

"Practice is going well, and the new guys continue to show us what they're all about," he said. "In addition, the veterans are on the right path and are helping the team along. It was good to be back out on the field playing games and getting the juices flowing again. Everyone had fun and we're looking forward to a few days off before we go to Florida."

The team will practice tomorrow before taking two days off to rest and rejuvenate. The Wizards will then head to Florida on Sunday, Feb. 11, where they will train and play exhibition games against various MLS teams. A full schedule of those matches will be available soon.
