United to host Armed Forces Appreciation Day

- D.C. United has announced details of the team's Ninth Annual Armed Forces and Veterans Appreciation Day. The event, scheduled for Saturday, June 14, is held to honor all current and former military personnel and their families. Riding a three-game unbeaten streak, D.C. United hosts the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. ET at RFK Stadium. 1,000 free tickets have been provided for active-duty members of the Armed Forces, while additional discounted tickets for Military ID holders and families are available through D.C. "It is a privilege and an honor for D.C. United to host a special night for military personnel and veterans each season," said Stephen Zack, Executive Vice President of D.C. United. "We respect the courage and commitment these individuals display and hope to share with them our support."


A festival to showcase aspects of the Armed Forces community will be featured at Soccer Celebration, held in Lot 8 of RFK Stadium beginning at 5:30 p.m. It will include booths for military recruiters, the USO, America Supports You (ASY), a Defense Department program highlighting grassroots and corporate support for the nation's servicemen and women, and three ASY non-profit homefront groups: Give An Hour, Operation Helmet and National Remember Our Troops Campaign. Pre-game festivities will include a swearing-in ceremony for military recruits. The U.S. Coast Guard Drill Team will perform at half time.
