Seattle MLS tickets already a hot item

The team is less than 24 hours old. No name has been announced, no colors or logos revealed, no pricing on tickets has been announced, yet the 15th team in Major League Soccer has sold more than 3,000 season tickets already.

"We are absolutely thrilled and excited with the response," said club part-owner and general manager Adrian Hanauer.

Just a day earlier, at the introductory press conference announcing the team's formation to begin play in the 2009 MLS season, Hanauer was asked about what the shape of the team will be.

"This will be a very smart soccer team," he said. "The players will make good decisions on the field. They will make good decisions off the field."

Being a team that desires to integrate with the community from day one, with innovations previously unseen in pro sports in North America -- such as a membership system that allows fans to vote in or out the club's general manager -- the announcement that the team will listen to name suggestions, submitted through mlsinseattle.com, has also generated more than 2,000 submissions.

"The phones have been ringing off the hook," said Hanauer. "We're absolutely thrilled and excited with the response. There is already great momentum, and we have only just begun."

Season ticket membership deposits of $50 per seat are now being taken. A season ticket membership guarantees a place in line and priority to purchase MLS Seattle season tickets for the 2009 season.

All membership deposits will be credited toward the initial season ticket purchase. Season ticket prices and locations will be announced at a later date.
