Red Bulls acquire allocation, pick for Wynne

SECAUCUS, NJ - Red Bull New York announced today that it has traded defender Marvell Wynne to Toronto FC in exchange for a partial allocation and a 2008 second round MLS SuperDraft pick.

"With the addition of Juan Pablo Angel, we needed to make room on our 18 man senior roster," said Red Bull New York Sporting Director & head coach Bruce Arena. "Unfortunately, Marvell Wynne was the most desirable player on our roster for teams throughout the league. We are going to miss Marvell and I think he has a bright future ahead of him. Marvell has been an outstanding member of this team and organization during his time here and we wish him all the best at Toronto FC."

Wynne was acquired by the Red Bulls in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft after New York traded up for the No. 1 overall spot in exchange for the No. 5 selection and defender Jason Hernandez. The speedy right back from Poway, CA made 28 appearances, including 23 starts, in 2006, notching three assists. He also played in both of the Red Bulls' postseason games last season and was named the 2006 Red Bulls Young Player of the Year.

The Red Bulls are 1-0-1 after defeating FC Dallas in their home opener on Sunday, 3-0, behind goals from Jozy Altidore, Clint Mathis and Dave van den Bergh. Next up, the Red Bulls take on the Houston Dynamo this Saturday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Giants Stadium (TV: Fox Soccer Channel, Spanish Radio: WADO 1280).
