Real Salt Lake waive defender Torres

SALT LAKE CITY - Real Salt Lake today announced the club has placed veteran DF Danny Torres on waivers and released back-up GK Matt Wideman from his Developmental contract with the team. Torres will be available for pick-up on the waiver wire by the other 12 MLS teams until Wednesday afternoon. In addition, RSL re-assigned MF Atiba Harris on the club's roster, as the 22-year-old St. Kitts & Nevis international will now occupy the club's lone available Youth International roster slot. With today's roster moves, Real Salt Lake now has three Senior International spots available on its 28-man roster, with D/M Jean-Martial Kipre occupying the lone of the team's designated four slots in that category.

The 29-year-old Torres finishes his term with Real Salt Lake, who signed him to a Senior International contract on January 9, 2006, with no goals or assists in his 26 appearances (25 starts) with the club across the last two seasons, including 10 games (nine starts) and 825 minutes played in 2007. The Costa Rican native has spent his 11-year professional career in MLS (RSL and Columbus Crew), Sweden (Bodens BK), Norway (Tromsø IL), and Costa Rica (Deportivo Saprissa).

RSL also let go of Wideman, a 22-year-old goalkeeper who signed a Developmental contract with the club on June 29. The Southern Methodist University product did not suit up for RSL in MLS regular season or Reserve Division play.
