Galaxy down PDL Seahorses 3-1

Gavin Glinton

Gavin Glinton scored twice and set up a third goal for Mike Randolph to lead the Los Angeles Galaxy to a 3-1 win over the Southern California Seahorses of the PDL at La Mirada High School. Just under 1,500 fans were in attendance to see Lance Friesz make six saves as L.A. defeated a local PDL side for the second time in the last two weeks.

Following a scoreless first half, Glinton wasted little time in putting his team in front after the break. Mike Randolph got around the Seahorses defense on the left flank and cut the ball back into the center of the box for Glinton whose first time shot snuck in just under the crossbar, giving the Galaxy a 1-0 lead.

Friesz and the Galaxy defense would make that lead stand up until the 75th minute when Takashi Yamada played Steven Lenhart in behind the L.A. defense and the Seahorses second half substitute placed his shot just inside of Friesz's left post, leveling the score at 1-1 in the 75th minute.

However, the Galaxy would not bow to the hosts increased momentum following the goal and answered back just three minutes later. Again it was Randolph who picked out Glinton's diagonal run and the Galaxy forward did the rest slipping his shot just inside the far post to put his team back in front at 2-1.

Ten minutes later the Galaxy put the game away, this time with Glinton playing the role of provider. The Turks and Caicos international picked out Randolph's overlapping run on the left flank and slid a pass behind the Seahorse defense. Randolph collected the pass as he broke into the box and tucked a left-footed shot under the Southern California keeper to put the game out of reach at 3-1 in the game's waning moments.

The Galaxy are back in action next week with a pair of home games at The Home Depot Center. On Tuesday night L.A. hosts the Eastern Conference leading New York Red Bulls in a U.S. Open Cup Play-In Game at 7:30 p.m. Four days later, on Saturday, May 12, the Galaxy return to MLS play when they take on the New England Revolution at 7:30 p.m.
