D.C. United waive Mediate

Domenic Mediate made two appearances for D.C. United in 2006.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United announced today the club has released midfielder Domenic Mediate. The product of the University of Maryland will be available to other MLS teams in the waiver draft, to be held Monday at 3:00 p.m. via conference call.

"We would like to thank Domenic for his time on and off the field with United during last season," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "We wish Dom the best of luck in the future."

Having joined United in a trade from the Columbus Crew on March 14, 2006, Mediate played in eight League games (two starts) for the Black-and-Red. His only season in the Nation's Capital was shortened due to injuries. In a 1-0 win over Chicago 6/21, he played 44 minutes before leaving with a concussion. After recovering, he worked his way back into the lineup, but suffered a broken leg in the team's 5-2 loss to Los Angeles 8/26, which required season-ending surgery to repair his broken distal fibula. Selected in the second round (23rd overall) of the 2005 MLS SuperDraft by the Columbus Crew, Mediate appeared in 11 games (four starts) and notched a goal and an assist.
