D.C. United obtain KiKi Willis

WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United announced today the team has obtained midfielder KiKi Willis via Major League Soccer waivers. The Youngstown, Ohio native has been signed to a developmental contract. Per League and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"We are very pleased to have acquired KiKi in today's waiver draft," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "In the short time he spent with D.C. United during our pre-season combine he proved he's worthy to be a part of the club and we look forward to his future with us."

Willis first impressed the United coaching staff at the club's invitation-only combine in January. He will report to RFK Stadium later in the week, as the club prepares for its Thursday match-up with CD Guadalajara in the semifinal round of CONCACAF Champions' Cup (kickoff at 8 p.m. ET).

Willis spent two seasons at Elon University, where he was named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State Men's Soccer Team in both 2005 and 2006. The Youngstown, Ohio native finished the 2006 season with eight goals and four assists. He was also named to the NSCAA/adidas All-South Second Team during both his freshman and sophomore seasons. In 2005, when he notched ten goals and three assists, he was named the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year and to the Second Team College Soccer News All-Freshman team.
