2007 Los Angeles Galaxy home opener set for April 12 against the New York Red Bulls

CARSON, CA - The Los Angeles Galaxy will play their 2007 MLS home opener against the New York Red Bulls on Thursday, April 12 at 7pm (PT) at The Home Depot Center on the campus of California State University at Dominguez Hills, the club announced today.

"I can't think of a better way to kick off our 2007 season than beating up on our old friends from New York," said L.A. Galaxy President and General Manager Alexi Lalas. "Thursday night, April 12th, at The Home Depot Center, it's simply the place to be."

Four days prior, the L.A. Galaxy will officially kick off the 2007 season on the road against the defending MLS Cup Champion Houston Dynamo on Sunday, April 8 at 4pm (PT) at Robertson Stadium. The Galaxy's complete 2007 MLS schedule will be released at a later date.

The 2007 home opener will be the Galaxy's first under head coach Frank Yallop, who guided the team to the 9-7-5 record (W-L-T) and a .548 winning percentage after taking over on June 7, 2006.

The Galaxy have compiled an impressive all-time record of 8-3-0 in their 11 previous MLS home openers and fell for only the third time last year against the New England Revolution, 1-0.

Los Angeles have an all-time regular season record of 12-12-3 against the Red Bulls over the course of MLS' first 11 seasons. That record includes a Galaxy home mark of 7-3-2 in 12 games at The Home Depot Center.

The two teams spilt the two-game season series in 2006, with each team winning at home. This year's home opener will mark the second time in League history that these two clubs have faced off to begin a season with the last meeting taking place on April 13, 1996 with a 2-1 win by the Galaxy.
