TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Rumor

Simon Dawkins might have already found a new club and he wouldn’t even have to leave the Western Conference.

Just three days after the San Jose Earthquakes announced the club and the midfielder have mutually parted ways, Dawkins could be heading to Minnesota United.

Reporter Jeff Rueter tweeted on Monday that sources have told him Minnesota is among the leading candidates for the services of the 30-year-old, who made 43 appearances (35 starts) for San Jose since signing as a Designated Player in 2016. He had five goals and two assists, but hadn’t been featured for the Quakes since early August.

Rueter also tweeted Minnesota is showing interest in Fluminese midfielder Marlon Freitas, according to MLS sources. The 22-year-old Brazilian was on loan with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the NASL in 2015.

Last week the Loons added Cameroon international defender Bertrand Owundi Eko’o on a free transfer from Rainbow FC after signing attacker Frantz Pangop.
