Report: Joao Plata's transfer from Real Salt Lake to Atletico San Luis off

Joao Plata - Real Salt Lake - Close up

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

A few weeks ago it appeared as if Joao Plata was just about gone from Real Salt Lake, with Mexican side Atletico San Luis set to acquire the Ecuadorian winger as they prepare to ascend into Liga MX next season.

That deal is no longer happening, according to RSL television commentator Brian Dunseth.

Despite the player apparently having agreed to personal terms with San Luis and the two clubs having reached the general outlines of a deal, ASL elected not to complete the paperwork, Dunseth reported during the broadcast of Salt Lake’s 1-1 draw at the Chicago Fire on Saturday.

It’s possible, though uncertain, that recent interest in another RSL wide player, Venezuelan international Jefferson Savarino, from a couple of big European clubs has affected Plata’s situation.

Plata, 27, has been one of Salt Lake’s key attackers in recent seasons but has garnered limited playing time in 2019, making seven appearances (one start) in league play for a total of 133 MLS minutes.
