FC Dallas pair Paxton Pomykal, John Nelson undergo surgery; expected back by preseason

FC Dallas duo Paxton Pomykal and John Nelson each underwent successful surgery to repair core muscle injuries, the club announced Thursday. Both are expected back by the start of preseason. 

Pomykal, 19, enjoyed a break 2019 campaign in which he starred for Dallas as well as the US national team at the U-20 World Cup before earning his senior USMNT debut. In MLS, he started 20 matches, adding two goals and five assists. 


Nelson, 21, was selected No. 10 overall in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft and made nine appearances during his rookie season. He was a standout at North Carolina for two seasons before entering the draft.
