Statement On Aug. 16, Whitecaps midfielder Matias Laba tweeted a statement that said he would miss the rest of the season because of an injury. Laba also confirmed in the statement that there was interest in him from Argentine side Racing, but added that he hopes to rejoin Vancouver soon.
Trades The Whitecaps made it official, acquiring D Aaron Maund in exchange for a third-round 2018 MLS SuperDraft pick from Real Salt. They also sent D Christian Dean to the Chicago Fire in a separate trade in exchange for up to $100,000 of combined General Allocation Money and Targeted Allocation Money.
Report's Sam Stejskal reported on Twitter on Aug. 9 the Whitecaps are set to acquire D Aaron Maund from Real Salt Lake in exchange for a MLS SuperDraft pick in 2018. Maund, 26, is in his fifth season at RSL, and has made 13 MLS regular season appearances this season, scoring one goal, as of Aug. 9.
Report England-based journalist Michael Warrington reported on Twitter on Aug. 9 that the Vancouver Whitecaps were one of three MLS teams interested in English M Gareth Barry. Barry, 36, currently plays for Everton, where he has been since 2014.
Report FourFourTwo's Paul Tenorio reported on Aug. 9 that Vancouver are in the process of finalizing a trade that would send D Christian Dean to Chicago.
Report On Aug. 2, The Canadian Press' Josh Clipperton tweeted that Canada international defender Adam Straith is training with the Whitecaps. Straith most recently played for FC Edmonton in the NASL.
Loan The Whitecaps have loaned midfielder Ben McKendry to NASL side Edmonton FC for the remainder of the season, with the option to recall, ahead of Edmonton's fall season opener against Indy Eleven on July 30. McKendry made only one league appearance for Vancouver this season, but also played in both legs of the 'Caps Canadian Championship semifinal defeat to Montreal.
Loan Kristian Dyer reported on Twitter on July 22 that Vancouver are set to loan D Sam Adekugbe to a Swedish club, with an eventual option to make the move permanent. Adekugbe, 22, only just returned to the 'Caps from a loan to English club Brighton & Hove Albion. On July 25, the club officially announced the loan move to Goteborg through the end of 2017.
Departure On July 18, Vancouver announced that they had mutually agreed to part ways with GK Paolo Tornaghi.
Loan On July 11, Vancouver announced that they had loaned out F Kyle Greig to FC Cincinnati for the remainder of the 2017 season.
Rumor Jeff Rueter reported on Twitter on July 6 that the Vancouver Whitecaps are looking to move D Christian Dean, with Minnesota United being a possible destination. The 24-year-old, limited by injuries and pushed down the center back depth chart, has made just 12 MLS appearances in four seasons.
Rumor Reports out of Turkey have the Vancouver Whitecaps rekindling their interest in Canadian international midfielder Atiba Hutchinson. Turkish outlet Haber3 claims the 'Caps have submitted a bid to Besiktas, the club where Hutchinson has played since 2013. Vancouver were also reportedly interested in Hutchinson in January, but no move materialized.
