The Colorado Rapids players are donating 10 percent of their win bonus from the 2020 season to the Help Colorado Now COVID-19 Relief Fund, which aims to help local businesses impacted by the pandemic.

"As a team, we saw the effect this pandemic continues to have on the community that each of us live in,ā€ defender Drew Moor told the Rapids' website. "As players, we simply wanted to make an impact in a positive way. This community supports us when weā€™re on the field. Itā€™s our turn to support them in this time of need."

The relief fund is designated for organizations that support essential workers, those in the hospitality industry, and gig workers as well as immunocompromised people, refugees and immigrants, people of color, and low-income households among others. The fund has raised more than $23 million so far.

ā€œAthletes are part of their communities,ā€ Moor said. ā€œWe live in Arvada, Aurora, Highlands Ranch, Thornton and all around the Denver metro area. These are our homes. These are our neighbors. If we have the ability to support others beyond ourselves and make an impact in our community, we should do it.ā€
