Nashville SC celebrated a milestone in the construction of their new soccer-specific stadium on Friday, as the club began the installation of the first steel beam in the in-progress venue.

The 2020 expansion side are currently playing their home games at Nissan Stadium until the new stadium opens at the Nashville Fairgrounds, which is currently scheduled to happen in 2022.

The club hosted virtual event and to commemorate the occasion, with Chief Executive Officer Ian Ayre on hand to deliver remarks and help host a tour of the stadium, before leading the placement of the beam.

"It's been incredible," Ayre said. "I think for those of us who have been able to go down there on a fairly regular basis and seen the rapid progress over the last few months, actually seeing the first piece of steel go in place and start to come out of the ground, it's such a big part of the construction of these huge structures.

"What we'll see is that the speed at which that framework goes up is incredible. In a few months' time you'll really start to see the shape and the mass of the building and I think that's one of the most inspiring things of these big construction projects. Obviously they happen over a couple years, but the steel frame really gives you a sense of how big this is and just how big a place it will take on the landscape. So it was exciting for everyone to be a part of that."
